Creating an account
Why do I need to create an account with VielfaltMenü?

If you receive an invoice from VielfaltMenü for your child's meals, you will need to create an account. If invoicing happens through your school or day care centre, an online account usually is not necessary.

How can I create a VielfaltMenü account?

Does your child attend a school or day care centre that serves food from VielfaltMenü? If so, you received an account code by email either from your institution or our Service Center. Use this code to start the online registration process.

Important: You need a valid email address to create an account.

Can I also create an account on my tablet?

Yes. You're welcome to create an account by visiting www.vielfaltmenue.com on your tablet, computer or smartphone.

How does online registration work?

  1. Click "Create account" at the top of the page.
  2. Enter the registration code in the field and click "Create account".
  3. Follow the steps on your screen and enter any requested information.
  4. Right before finishing, you will receive a summary.
  5. Click "Create account" to complete the process. Now you're ready to order meals.

Is the registration code the same as my account number?

No, you only need the code to create an account.

Why didn't I receive a confirmation email with an activation link?

Our email probably landed in your spam folder, so please check there.

Practical tip: Save our email address to your address list to make sure our emails always find their way to your inbox. Another explaination: your inbox might simply be full.

What if I cannot create an online account?

You are also welcome to sign up for an account on paper. You can find the appropriate paperwork for creating an account with us at your institution (school or day care centre) or by contacting our service center team.

Why didn't I receive an email with my account number?

Please have a look in your spam folder. If you still can't find your account number, please contact our service center.

Why do I need to register again even though I already have an old account number?

If you haven't used your account for a while, you will need to register again. The same applies if your child has changed facilities since the conditions for our services may have changed (catering type, menu, prices, etc.).

What exactly is a profile?

A profile is a combination of your account number and your password.

Can I save multiple profiles if I have more than one child?

Yes, you can save multiple profiles. Here's how:

  1. Click "Login | Order" at the top of the page.
  2. Enter your account number and password, and tick the box "Save profile".
  3. Now click “Login”. This saves your child's profile and logs you into the system. Please log out when done and follow the same process for each additional account. You can follow this same process to create profiles for additional children.

Ordering meals & logging in
How can I order meals online?

  1. Click on "Login | Order" at the top of the page and log in to your account.
  2. Enter your account number and password.
    Tip: Already created a profile? Choose "Log in with a profile" to log in with it.
  3. After logging in, the current weekly menu for your child's school or day care appears.
  4. Click a meal to select it for your child. It automatically lands in your cart.
  5. You can order meals several weeks in advance. Use the right and left arrows in the calender to navigate between weeks. Your choice are automatically saved.
  6. When finsihes, click "Save and check out" at the bottom.
  7. Your can now proceed to the checkout.
  8. To finalize and submit your order, click "Confirm".

Do I need to save my meal choices for each week?

No, you can select meals for several weeks by simply placing them in your cart. You only need to save your selection at the end of the order process.

How can I cancel a meal I already ordered?
  1. After logging in, click "Order meals".
  2. Tick the box next to the meal you would like to cancel. The cancellation symbol (recycle bin) will appear.
  3. Now click on your cart at the top right of your screen.
  4. To complete the process, click "Confirm".
  5. Your cancellation will be confirmed.
  6. Click OK to return to your meal plan. The cancellation is complete.

Important: We can only consider cancellations confirmed by the system (see steps 3 and 4). Cancelled meals that are still in your shopping cart will not be recognised as cancelled.

Why can't I order online?

When this happens, there are several possible explanations:

  • Online orders are not possible because your institution only uses food vouchers or places a group order.
  • The ordering window for this day is closed. In this case, the day will be shown in grey.
  • You may have overdue payments or your account balance is insufficient.
  • Your institution has paused ordering due to a public or school holiday, an excursion, etc.
  • You may have invalid items in your cart. After removing them, you will be able to place a new order.
  • Day care centres usually place a group order. If your institution places group orders, you will only be permitted to cancel meals.

What does "Log in with your profile" mean?

Saving your account number and password as a profile makes it quicker to log in. Select "Login | Order" at the top of the page. Look for your profile in the "Select profile" dropdown menu. If you’ve created several profiles, choose the profile you'd like to access.

I forgot my login credentials!

If you forgot your password, there are two ways to get a new one:

1. If you're not logged in, click "Login | Order" at the top of the pasge. Now click "Forgot password?" to set a new one.
2. If you’re logged in, you can change your password in the Profile section under "Manage Profile": Click the name of the profile you would like to manage.

Either way, a new page opens where you can enter your email address and account number for verification. After clicking "Reset" you will receive an email with a password reset link. Keep in mind that your new password should contain a minimum of 8 characters and at least one number and a symbol.

Forgot your account number? Look for it on an invoice from us or in your contract documents/registration confirmation in the subject. Otherwise, please contact our Service Center. You can find contact details in your contract (account confirmation). Or reach out to our main Service Center desk for further support. Visit our website or the VielfaltMenü app for contact information.

How do I change my password?

You can change your password in the "Profile" section under "Change password".  Or click "Forgot password?" in the login section - click "Order meals". If you’re already logged in, make sure to log out first.

Why can't I order for next week at the weekend?

Day care centres and schools have logistics in place to ensure that children receive fresh, well-prepared meals –especially larger institutions where many children take part in catering services. Depending on the catering concept, the meal planning and preparations for a new week is therefore completed one to two days before the weekend. That is why we are not able to offer the ordering function everywhere at the weekend. Customers who have registered online can view the detailed order times in their profile management under the button order times.

Why should I activate the order reminder?

You can take advantage of this option to receive timely reminders to select and order meals before the ordering window closes. If you have already ordered and still receive the
order reminder, please ignore it.
If you no longer want your order reminder, you can deactivate it at any time in your customer profile when you have registered online. Therefore go to your profile management and remove the checkmark at order reminder. By saving your order reminder will be deactivated.

Why can't I choose meals for my day-care-aged child?

In day care centres, children have a shared mealtime that is part of the educational concept. The children's meals are stored in our system as a standing order. Day care centre staff select the menus according to nutritional and physiological aspects, and often depending on the age of the children.

I placed an order, but my child didn't receive a meal. What happens now?

There are several possible reasons, so first we need to clarify the cause. We take great care to track down these types of errors quickly because it's our goal to avoid them in the future.

If this should ever happen to your child, please contact our service center immediately. You will find the contact details in your contract (account confirmation). Or you can call our customer service centre, and our staff will be happy to put you in touch with the right person. Which quality standards do you apply to ensure high-quality meals?

Our well-balanced meals for day care centres and schools are based on the quality standards and recommendations of the German Nutrition Society (DGE). Many of our kitchens have had a dedicated menu line for both day care and school meals based on DGE quality standards. We give preference to seasonal and regional products from certified suppliers. At VielfaltMenü, we define regional products as products from Germany that are seasonally available in Germany. We prefer to source our ingredients from growing regions where they can grow and ripen naturally.

Our quality management is based on the following four

  1. We comply with all legal requirements of the German Food Hygiene Regulation (LMHV).
  2. We apply quality and environmental management systems according to DIN EN ISO 9001 / 14001.
  3. We have external inspections, regular audits and certifications carried out.
  4. We conduct strict audits of our suppliers to ensure compliance with quality and environmental standards.

Do you use any preservatives or flavour enhancers?

Our meals consist exclusively of fresh, natural ingredients. We do not use any artificial preservatives, flavour enhancers such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), aromas or artificial colourings. We comply with DGE guidelines and emphasise natural flavours. Wherever possible, we serve fish certified by MSC, GLOBALG.A.P or ASC.

How do you make sure your meals are child-friendly?

We have specialised in age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate catering for several years. As experts for high-quality meals for day care centres and schools, we develop catering concepts tailored to the abilities and needs of children of all ages.

For example, while our focus for small children tends to be on serving bite-sized portions of fruits and veggies, or promoting independent choices through child-friendly buffets, we know that teenagers enjoy international food trends or takeaway snacks.

What about variety in your meals?

We believe that a well-balanced diet includes daily portions of fresh salad, vegetables, raw foods and fruit. Each day we offer a vegetarian option. Meat is included in our weekly menu no more than twice a week, and fish at least once a week. Dishes with milk and eggs appear regularly on our menu.

Depending on the facility, up to three menus can be selected from – so there's something for every child. Buffets, a free choice of side dishes and special offers create plenty of variety. When compiling our menus, we make sure to avoid frequent repetition. What's more, our employees are deeply rooted in their local communities. They know our partners personally and are familiar with the social, cultural and culinary conditions of their region. We channel this holistic experience into our menu design.

Do you have all-vegetarian days?

One of our primary goals at VielfaltMenü is to gradually reduce our consumption of animal-based products. We collaborate with ProVeg to analyse and upgrade our line of vegetarian meals. In the long term, we aim to increase our share of vegetarian and vegan meals even further.

We have also begun raising awareness of the health benefits of plant-based nutrition amongst our kitchen managers, cooks and serving staff.

Why do meals like rice pudding or porridge cost the same as chicken drumsticks with red cabbage and potatoes?

Our prices are based on a mixed calculation because prices, especially for food, can fluctuate widely. In addition to the cost of ingredients, we base our prices on the cost of our staff, electricity, kitchen cleaning services, our Service Center offer, and invoicing.

We aim to pay our employees fair wages, comply with German Nutrition Society guidelines, and provide access to affordable lunches to as many families as possible. We genuinely believe children should also be able to enjoy meals that are a bit more elaborate, both in terms of their cost and preparation.

Can my child have a second helping?

We always try to provide extra helpings of veggies, potatoes and other side dishes. But since we try to avoid food waste as well as surpluses, we may need to offer your child an alternative side dish as a second helping if the one on the menu has already run out.

Why don't all menus come with the same dessert?

When pairing meals with desserts, we consider the number of calories, taste and other criteria. If we offer a rich meal with meat, for example, we do not combine it with a creamy, high-fat dessert. Instead, we choose fruit or raw foods to meet the required calorie values.

Is "organic" really organic?

When you see organic on our menu, you can rest assured it's organic. We are regularly certified by a third-party organic food testing institute.

High-quality organic ingredients are an integral part of many of our recipes. We can offer a 100% organic menu to day care centres and schools on request.

How high is the percentage of organic ingredients in your day care and school meals?

It varies by institution and depends on the conditions, requirements, pricing and requested catering concept.

Does VielfaltMenü use sustainable principles when making school meals?

We are an experienced caterer with longstanding regional roots. We are aware that we have an immense responsibility to help meet the ecological and social challenges of our time. Climate change is one of the primary issues facing our world and VielfaltMenü has set ambitious goals in this regard.

It is our vision – and mission – that all our customers have access to delicious, healthy and sustainable meals. We want to be pioneers in the field of catering for schools and educational institutions and actively shape it as a driver of innovation.

Do you use fresh vegetables, canned vegetables or frozen vegetables?

We purchase most of our vegetables fresh, directly from regional producers. We also place a high premium on seasonal produce.

Even so, we aren't able to source fresh vegetables year-round in the quantities we need. That's why we also use frozen vegetables, which, as research has shown, are also rich in vitamins and minerals. We ensure that the vegetables we use are washed and shock frozen immediately after harvesting to avoid quality loss before processing. Our frozen vegetables do not contain any additives.

Do you have menus for food allergies or special dietary needs?

Yes, we offer at least the following four special dietary options: basic allergy meals, fructose-free meals, gluten-free meals and gluten-free without milk or eggs.

Allergy sufferers can choose from up to two menus per special food form, depending on the region and requirements.

We make it easy to order meals for your child with special dietary needs:

  1. Contact our service center and ask for the request form for special dietary needs or go to „Manage profile“ and click on the button Special food. There you will find the special food form for download.
  2. Fill out the paperwork and send it, together with a note from your child's doctor, to our service center.
  3. We'll take care of the rest. Once your application is approved, your child will receive a specially prepared meal every day from our local kitchen staff.

Do you offer a full meal plan (all meals) for allergy sufferers?

Yes, for breakfast and afternoon snacks we offer partial alternatives for children with food allergies and intolerances. We provide dietetically tested, central menus for precisely this purpose.

Since the choice of suitable, high-quality products is somewhat smaller in this category and we have to guarantee a high level of food safety, we offer a two-week menu for breakfast and afternoon snacks and an eight-week menu for lunch.

What does the "i" button stand for on the menu?

The small "i" stands for information. Simply click it to view detailed information, such as nutritional values or food allergens.

Can I share feedback about a meal at any time?

You can send us feedback on the meals you ordered within three days (from the day of delivery). You can rate the food as well as the service by selecting a smiley and answering questions using the slider.

Click the button "Order meals" and log in. Next, the menu will open. Click the speech bubble next to a dish to give us your feedback. If you have detailed feedback or questions, please our contact service center.

Is it possible to submit food requests or suggestions for a meal?

Yes, we are happy to consider food requests from children and parents.

Suggestions and requests can be addressed to us through the food committee or board in your day care centre or school, or directly through our service center. After careful consideration, we are pleased to implement new ideas.

Why do the children need a transponder or barcode card?

We use these to identify your child and provide the selected meal.

Can I choose which caterer will deliver meals for my child's day care?

In most day care centres, the institution or provider decides on the caterer – often based on a public tender.

We encourage you to talk to your childcare management if you would like to have a say in the choice of caterers or to pass on your wishes to us.

What happens to food that's not picked up or any left-overs?

Like all caterers, we are obligated to return unclaimed or leftover food to biogas plants. This handover must also be documented.
Sustainability and sustainable food use are firmly anchored in our philosophy at VielfaltMenü. We avoid waste, adjust our recipes and promote awareness amongst our employees of the need to handle food with care.

Where can I find a sample menu?

Our meals vary locally, so you will need an account number and password to view your individual meal options.

Why don't you offer a paper menu?

To be kind to the environment and reduce paper waste, we no longer offer printed menus.

Why does the menu have so many numbers and letters? It's so confusing!

According to the Food Information Regulation, all group caterers are required to label allergens and additives. These ingredients can be easily recognised by the number and letter combinations on the menu. The labels are regularly checked by the responsible food authorities.

Who pays for kindergarten and school meals?

Education in Germany is a matter for the state governments, which means both the prices and the subsidies for kindergarten and school meals vary from state to state. In addition to subsidies from the federal states and local authorities, parents are also responsible for part of the costs.

The situation is different for low-income families, whose costs for school lunches are covered by government subsidies.

Where can I find my invoices?

You will find your invoices in the "My account" tab in the menu. Just click "Login | Order" and select the invoice period by clicking the calendar symbol. Alternatively, you can search for invoice numbers or print your invoices. The maximum retention period in our system is 18 months.

What does payment in prepaid mean?

You have the option of making your transfer in advance (prepaid). This gives your customer account a credit balance that enables you to participate in the meal. The credit balance should always be replenished in good time, taking into account the bank working days.

What does payment by SEPA direct debit mean?

The meal fee is debited in accordance with the SEPA regulations. You will receive advance
information about the amount and the deadline for the debit in advance by e-mail. The meal money will then be debited from your account at the beginning of the following month.

Under the button "Order meals".

Why were subsidies I receive through the Education and Participation Package (BuT) not included in my bill?

There are several possible reasons. The approval period may have expired or we received the BuT notice too late (after the monthly settlement). Unfortunately, we cannot retroactively change our invoice. Please contact your BuT office directly for assistance.

Why do I have to provide account information when I am eligible for subsidies through the Education and Participation Package (BuT)?

We manly need your account details for the event that you are no longer eligible for BuT subsidies.
If you have a day care child, we need your bank account information because parents are usually responsible for the costs of breakfast and snacks. Government subsidies (BuT) only cover lunch. The regulation my vary by state.

Do I receive additional payments for lunch - what is Education and Participation Package (BuT)?

The different benefits for education and participation (BuT), also called Education Package, support children and adolescents and young adults from families who have less financial resources. These benefits allow your child to take advantage of offerings at school and during free time when you could not otherwise afford the cost. This includes, among other things, participation in a communal lunch program at school or kindergarten.
Many cities or communities also offer vouchers or special discounted rates. Please contact your city or community for more information. An overview of where you can get information on the benefits of the Education and Participation Package locally can be found at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

How can I change the name that appears on a contract?

Please contact our Service Center.

How can I terminate my contract?

If you signed up online, you may cancel your contract at the website in the "Profile" section: Log in and select your user profile, under "Manage profile". For paper contracts, you can send notice of termination by email, post or fax. Please refer to the General Terms and Conditions for the period of notice. You received these either together with your registration in paper form or as a PDF document during online registration.

What are the technical requirements of ordering online?

There are several ways to order our meals online:

  1. You can use a computer with internet access. In this case, it is important to accept cookies and activate JavaScript.
  2. You can order with your smartphone or tablet at www.vielfaltmenue.com. Our website is optimised for mobile devices.
  3. You can use the VielfaltMenü app to place your orders. The free app is available for iPhones from the Apple App Store and for Android devices from Google Play.

Which browsers support the new online ordering system?

We tested the page on the latest versions of the following browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari. We cannot guarantee the page functionality on other browsers such as BitBox, Iron or Opera.

Is it possible to print the meal plan or my invoices?

Yes, it is. Depending on your system, browser and settings, you may need an additional PDF reader such as Adobe Reader or PDF Reader. You can then print out menus and invoices from your computer. This is not currently possible from a mobile device.

Who can I contact if I experience any problems with the online ordering system?

Please contact our service center by phone or email, and state your account number in your message. You will find the contact details in your contract (account confirmation). Or you can contact our service center, which will gladly forward your request. Contact details for our head office can be found on our website and in the VielfaltMenü App.

Yes. We first collaborate with you to identify your precise needs and are happy to fulfil your requirements.

Are dishes other than the standards available?

Yes. Our selection of dishes is rich in variety. We also adapt them to the needs of your employees.

How can employees pay?

We offer everything from cash to cashless – whether card terminal, transponder chip or classic cash register.

You back up your data on your server or in your cloud. VielfaltMenü does not have access to it.
